Knowing the title was based on the song I played a little, I read the lyrics online first then later when I went to bed I read the story. Then to just add to my own fun I listened to the song when done. The author Donnie Light fit the lyrics in very nicely for the story and filled in a back story that while a really Great Band the Eagles made you know the story and the depth, just didn't give the ending that Mr. Light did. He filled in blanks while staying true to the song in a great way Kudos for a great job staying true to the song..I defiantly approved best night time story and when done listening to the i-pod while sipping well, not pink champagne on ice, but not warm milk either, still a nice relaxation at the end of the night..Great fleshing out the tune and giving an ending that I can live with happily, and slept just fine after. I have been humming the tune all day and have to get something else stuck in my head now.. It is a really nice short story and well worth visiting the Hotel California again even at my age, I think the Eagles would approve.
I'll start by saying that this is not a usual type of story that I read. I'm a non-fiction junkie, metaphysical junkie, romance junkie and classic literature junkie. But I've had this story rolling around in my head for a few years now every time I hear the song Hotel California and out of curiosity I wondered if anyone else had as well.
Of course, when I came across this book I was intrigued. How close was the story to the one I'd been mulling over? So I bought the book and settled in for a relaxing read.
I really enjoyed both the writing style and the story. I thought it was well presented and that the author did a nice job developing the main character with both thoughts and action. He also followed the song so close that I found the tune wandering through my brain as I was reading the story!
All in all, I was impressed with this short story and would recommend this to anyone who loves the song Hotel California.
Excellent concept but poorly executed. So much more could have been done by adding more details and polishing the writing style. Other than the subject matter being dark in nature, the level of writing was on par with a book written for an elementary or possibly middle school student. Story lines and concepts were quickly glazed over and characters were left undeveloped. I really expected so much more from a tribute to such an iconic song.
I thought this was such a creative way to write a book. They followed the song true to form! Although this was a very short story, I loved it! Great read, totally worth it!
I always imagined the hotel as a child, my parents would play the eagles song quite often still do to this day (33 years after) and this story put me in the song very pleasurable if I may say
Not that thrilling, I saw where it was going pretty early on. It was just an ok read.
I dare you to read this novella without the Eagles music invading your head.
Both are a welcome repast.
Donnie Light has given life to the story behind one of music's most popular songs.
A tale of loss and redemption, of past and future, of being lost and trying to be found.
